Aviva and Joel, like so many couples this year, had a big beautiful wedding planned for 2020. Then the pandemic hit, and their plans for a big wedding came to a halt. A wedding that would’ve involved many family members flying to San Diego from all over the world. Not wanting to wait an indefinite length of time to be able to safely reschedule their wedding, they decided to have a micro wedding this year, and wait to have their large wedding when it is safe.
What is a micro wedding, you ask? A micro wedding, a very small and intimate wedding, isn’t a new concept, but is one that has become commonplace during the Coronavirus pandemic. Opting for a micro wedding allowed Aviva and Joel to still get married this year, and to include their immediate families.
Married at San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar, California, They started their day by walking through the sage brush where Joel cut flowers for Aviva’s bouquet. Then we came out to a clearing in the park where their family members had set up an heirloom chuppah and a cell phone to stream the ceremony to faraway guests. After a few family photos, they all shared blessings and stories. Then Aviva and Joel exchanged the most intimate of vows.
It was a perfect day. So perfect, they decided that they didn’t need to have the big wedding next year. This turned out to be exactly what they wanted, even if it wasn’t what they had originally planned.
